Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and oooo lala do I have a place for you!

With plenty of romance, adventure, culture and gastronomies, it’s easy to fall in love with this quaint seaside village. Visually recognized from the north, south, east and west for miles away by the colossal rock, aka Morro Rock, sitting beautifully on the Pacific Ocean, Morro Bay is love at first sight. The Kansas Underground Salt Museum - Part 2

I am here to tell you the rest of the story.  If you don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about, click here.

Anyway...

First stop was the mining gallery - where we learned about all aspects of the mining process used in the early 1920’s, 30’s, and so on. Over the past decades, numerous no-longer-used items have accumulated throughout the mine, creating sort of an ever-expanding time capsule. Included in those items is several equipment used during those early time periods. Some vehicles are at least 70 years old. Miners would purchase a vehicle needed in the mine, disassemble it to take it down, weld it all back together once in the mine, and then abandon the vehicle/equipment once it was no longer in working order. The miners have a saying, "what goes in the mine … stays in the mine".

The Kansas Underground Salt Museum - Part I

Note: This post was running close to 1,500+ words. My college papers didn’t even have to be that long. So in order to add in all the fun we had … I’m breaking my post into two different parts. So you’ll have to come back tomorrow to see if I had a panic attack and went all loco de la cabasa while we were down there.

Sometimes … people ask really dumb questions. For instance: my girlfriend/neighbor asked if I wanted to come over for a glass of wine. To me, this is a really dumb question. If it involves wine, food, or an adventure – I’m just not going to say no. Ever. So naturally, when my husband asked if I wanted to go 650 feet underground to a working salt mine … I excitingly asked him when and what time?!

Four FREE Things To Do In Wichita, Ks

Why not start the blog off on the right foot.  I'm staying local for my first post...
I originally posted this article for Traveling Mom.  Make sure you check out my other articles on the website.

When was the last time you heard someone say, "We're going to Wichita, Kansas" in total excitement? Probably never. Why on earth would anyone want to go to a place known mostly for its cattle-flecked prairies and acres of wheat in the middle of nowhere? It may not be a top vacation pick for most, but I'm here to say that it's so much more than what people think.
Not only is it Kansas's largest city, but it's also the AirCapital of the World. It's home to the Wichita State Shockers. It's where Kirstie Alley calls home and where Emma Stone states she's from in the movie Zombieland. If you're into Rock & Roll, you may remember The White Stripes went to Wichita to "work the straw" in their Grammy award winning song, "Seven Nation Army". Then there's Glen Campbell's popular song, "Wichita Lineman". That's just a drip in the bucket of some of Wichita's shoutouts.

In the Wichita metro area, there are 36 museums, more than 24 attractions, 20 live theatres, 35 art galleries, and 32 golf courses. Most which come with a "Midwestern price". But if you're looking for some quick free fun with the family, I've come up with a list of a few must-see FREE things to do while you're in Wichita.
